Modern computer graphics technology especically in 3D graphics uses the rasterization hardware technology to enhance the rendering performance. As computing performance increases dramatically due to the enhancement of computing architecture, a number of software rendering techniques are used to support realistic 3D graphics. Among these techiques, ray-tracing technology is widely used in creating movies, animations and other special effects.
Nonetheless, current ray-tracing technology consumes a considerable amount of time to perform rendering process and lacks functions to support real-time rendering. We believe that this real-time ray-tracing hardware technology will help graphics designers generate photo-realistic 3D graphics of high level of quality with less amount of efforts than when working on rasterization hardware format.
